Dean’s Welcome to the ASA

Angela Bedard-Haughn, PhD, PAg - Dean and Professor, College of Agriculture and Bioresources

On behalf of all of us here in the College of Agriculture and Bioresources – welcome! AgBio has a long tradition of excellence in teaching, research and outreach. We pride ourselves on guiding our students in developing the foundational knowledge and hands-on skills that they need to be successful wherever their road takes them. We pride ourselves on innovative research that tackles the greatest challenges of our time – feeding our hungry and growing world, while responsibly caring for the environment.

We pride ourselves on our connection to our community, listening and responding to needs and sharing our expertise. By joining AgBio, you are now part of this tradition of excellence. You are building your future and the future of our province, our country, and our planet. The classes you take, the summer job experiences that you gain, the people that you meet – including your fellow students, your instructors, and the broader community of professionals (many of whom are alumni themselves) – these are all part of your journey, and your AgBio network is here for the long haul.

While 2020-21 is providing us with a lot of new challenges, AgBio is meeting them head-on. Like agriculture itself, AgBio is resilient. We are adapting by adopting new teaching approaches, hosting online get-togethers, and constantly thinking about how we can provide the best experience for our students under these difficult circumstances. You can help us make the best of this situation by getting involved – connect with your ASA and other student clubs and take part in the online activities that they are organizing, share your constructive feedback on the new teaching approaches with your instructors and student services (remember – a lot of this is new terrain for your instructors, too, and your feedback can help us improve), and if you have an idea for an activity or student experience but aren’t sure where to start, reach out. We are here to help. Again – your AgBio network is here for the long haul.

Stay safe and have a great year!
